I have missed last year`s AJL for the reason I myself couldn`t remember. So, last night I watched the show. The opening show was lined up by some previous winners and one of them was M Nasir. Boy..., he looked as young as he was when he won Juara Lagu back in 1994! Not a white strand or thinning hair was spotted on his head!
I cannot resist commenting some of the performances, and the singers themselves. But hey, these are only from my humble observations. Not necessarily acceptable to everyone who watched it from different perspectives yea! So, here we go!
1)Yuna started off the competition, sang a song while playing the piano. Superb! I`ve never seen a singer can be this talented and multitasking like her.
2)Faizal Tahir-Selamat Malam, it is cliché to use bed and sleeping woman as props for this song, but being Faizal Tahir, he always comes up to the stage with one-of a-kind performance. And the idea of featuring the expecting Khairiah, Fatimah and daughter, Datok Aziz and his wife was exceptionally brilliant! The hugging part by Fatimah and Faizal, twice, errr...I think pretty too much.
3)Faizal Tahir- Hanyut, everytime I listen to the song, I always think that he sings the song for his wife. And I just learnt from the show that he wrote the lyrics himself! Sweet and moving..He never failed to surprise the audience in his performance, which kept me awake throughout the show to wait for it. And when he won Best Performance , it was not a big surprise! hehe
4)Black - Sofea Jane, his voice projection was splendid, even though I was still wondering the relevance of the song with the title. Too bad he lost to Hafiz for best vocal. Huhuh
5)Shahir-Kebahagiaan dalam perpisahan, boring and weak performance
6)API-Pelita, at the initial stage, I thought Lan involved in accident and insisted to pursue the competition with hand bandage. I was wrong and apparently the bandage and scratched faces were parts of the performance. Ooooo..
7)Bunkface-Extravaganza, indie band with cute boys and energetic performance
8)Tomok-Berlari, highlighted his eyes using black eyeliner, hmmm so much of an Adam Lambert wannabe.
9)Ana Rafalli- Tolong ingatkan aku, despite the sweet song, I didn`t really fancy the overall performance and I hardly could catch her pronunciation in her singing. But it turned out that she won the title! Quite unexpected, but surely judges knew better.
10) Meet Uncle Hussin-Drama King, one of the malay songs that I feel worth to keep it in my playlist. And, when it won the best three, I just couldn’t agree more!
That`s about it. Adios !
